Role Purpose
The Regional Security Director will lead security and crisis management efforts in West Africa. This includes developing and implementing security strategies to enable effective program delivery, managing risks, and ensuring organizational resilience. The role requires bilingual proficiency (English & French) and offers an opportunity to shape the security framework in complex operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement regional and national security strategies aligned with global goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership teams and global security groups to ensure cohesive strategies.
- Integrate security measures into broader organizational objectives and operations.
Technical and Operational Support
- Provide expert guidance on security and crisis management to regional leadership.
- Oversee security risk assessments, crisis responses, and post-incident reviews.
- Support Civil-Military and Police engagement to manage relationships with armed actors.
Capacity Building
- Design and execute security training programs, focusing on operating in high-risk environments.
- Mentor and develop regional security teams in risk assessment and mitigation techniques.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing and implement best practices for security management.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with World Vision’s Core Security Requirements.
- Conduct regular reviews of national offices’ security frameworks to align with risk ratings.
- Oversee the implementation of lessons learned to foster a continuous improvement culture.
Knowledge Management
- Lead initiatives to document, share, and apply best practices in security management.
- Conduct regional security analyses to inform organizational strategies and operations.
- Enhance institutional learning through reports, workshops, and global collaboration.
Liaison and Representation
- Act as a focal point for regional security, liaising with stakeholders like governments, NGOs, and international agencies.
- Represent World Vision in regional forums and civil-military coordination efforts.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Risk Management, International Relations, or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience in security leadership roles within NGOs, UN, military, or private sectors.
- Proficiency in security risk assessments, planning, and crisis management in complex humanitarian contexts.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
- Fluent in French and proficient in English (written and verbal).
- Willingness to travel extensively, including to high-risk locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Formal qualifications in business continuity or advanced security certifications.
- Knowledge of additional regional languages (Spanish, Portuguese) is advantageous.
- Strong network in humanitarian and security fields.
Work Environment
- Extensive domestic and international travel (up to 30%), including high-risk areas.
- Flexible work hours to accommodate global operations.
- Regular exposure to high-stress situations requiring effective decision-making.
